How to Sell Digital Products for Your Business

Whether you’re running a blog or an online business, you may be considering selling your own digital products in order to earn more money and grow your business. But how can you go about doing that? Here are a few tips from someone who has done it before and created multiple digital products for my businesses. 🙂

Why Should You Create Digital Products?

Have you ever thought about selling digital products online? Digital products are a great way to make money online because you can get started right away. You don’t need to create or ship a physical product to your customers. Instead, you can deliver your product instantly through the right software (you don’t want to be sending files to people manually lol).

A digital product is a great way to build a brand because it gives you the opportunity to connect with people on a deeper level than a simple blog post. You can help people solve problems, offer a done-for-you solution or template, or teach them how to do things. Digital products are also a great way to diversify your income and to offer your audience more of what they’re already interested in.

If you’re a freelancer, social media manager, or virtual assistant, you should think about creating and selling digital products because of the high opportunity for passive income. Instead of waiting for jobs to come to you, you can take the initiative and create products that you can sell over and over again.

What Are Some of the Best Digital Products to Sell Online?

Deciding on what digital product to create will depend a lot on what kind of business or blog you already have and what your audience is interested in, but here are some general categories for digital products:

Ebooks

Who said books are old news? I’ve bought so many ebooks over the years and I love how you can get so much value at a (typically) low price. Ebooks can be packed with insights and are easily downloadable and incredibly versatile. Whether you’re looking to establish thought leadership, grow your email list, or share your wealth of knowledge, ebooks are the choice for you.

Digital Courses

Ever dreamed of becoming a teacher, minus the chalk dust and screaming— er— happy children? Digital courses let you do just that. The internet is your classroom, and from bite-sized tutorials to comprehensive masterclasses, digital courses are essential for engaging and monetizing your audience. Creators like Jenna Kutcher and Marie Forleo have turned online courses into multi-seven figure businesses.

Video Training

Lights, camera, action! Don’t want to do a whole course? Consider selling a video workshop or one-off training. Dive deep into how-tos, dazzle with demonstrations, and keep your audience glued to their screens. Breaking down complex topics or walking viewers through a process? Video is where it’s at.

Audio Series

Podcasts and audiobooks are like Netflix for your ears. Create an audio series to engage, entertain, and educate on the go. Audio is great for meditations, podcasts, or busy listeners who might be multi-tasking.

Workshops and Webinars

Miss the thrill of a live audience? Virtual workshops to the rescue! Share your screen, not your germs, and deliver hands-on learning experiences that stick. Workshops and live webinars offer that personal touch, providing live feedback and fostering a community vibe.

Printables

In a click-and-download age, printables are your best friend. They’re like fast food for content – quick, satisfying, and always a crowd-pleaser. From planners to art prints, printables serve up instant gratification. They’re a fantastic way to add value and keep your audience coming back for seconds.

Memberships

Create your own exclusive club with memberships. It’s about building a community around your content, offering sneak peeks, insider info, or special perks. Memberships keep the engagement going long-term and turn followers into loyal fans.

Software

If you fancy yourself a coder, you can always try your hand at developing software (like it’s that easy ;)). Software solves problems, automates tasks, and sometimes feels like it’s powered by magic. Whether you’re creating a WordPress plugin, a productivity tool, or a niche app, software sells not just a product but a solution.

Design Templates

Design templates— whether they’re for Canva, Photoshop, or something else— are a great way for designers to generate passive income outside of client work and help customers who might otherwise not be able to afford custom design. They’re the lifehack for non-designers and even a time-saver for pros, transforming your projects from meh to marvelous.

Premade Graphics

We can’t all be Picassos, but with premade graphics, who needs to be? 😉 Spruce up your content with ready-to-use visuals. It’s like having an art department on demand, empowering you to focus on creating killer content. Ideas include quote graphics, patterns and textures for other designers to use, social media banners, and more.

You might use a program like Canva Pro in order to design and create your digital downloads / printables.

What Software Do You Need to Sell Digital Downloads and Digital Products?

You can sell digital downloads on your website by using a tool like Gumroad, Sendowl, or GetDPD. These are platforms that allow you to sell digital goods, and they’re great for selling eBooks, digital downloads, music, videos, or photos. They’re easy to set up and easy to use.

Personally I use DPD get it’s only $10 a month for 20 products and also lets you set up a basic affiliate program so people can earn money by referring other people.

If you want to sell a more in-depth digital product like an ecourse, then you’ll want course or membership software like Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi, Podia, Membervault, or others.

For selling online memberships there are also a number of WordPress or Squarespace plugins available that integrate directly with your website. I personally use a WordPress plugin called Memberpress, but there are others like Wishlist Member as well.

In conclusion, whether you want to provide a service or make an income, this guide should help you out with all the basics of selling on your website.

So what are you waiting for? Take these tips into consideration when creating and selling digital products in your online business, so that it’s built for success!
