My Top Recommendation: Genesis Framework by Studiopress

Genesis Framework by Studiopress

Genesis is a great framework that you can use as a base and then purchase a “child theme” that is already designed how you like it (or if you know how to code, Genesis has their own system for customizing your site completely, but you don’t have to).

You buy the basic framework and can also buy a number of add-on child themes that all look VERY different because this is truly a flexible framework. You can also buy additional Genesis themes, but you still need the basic framework installed. If you find a Genesis theme that you already love, you won’t actually have to code anything.

You need: 1. the Genesis Framework AND 2. a Genesis child theme for it to work.

Genesis is what I’ve used for many client websites and iterations of Katie Harp Creative.

To use Genesis, just install the basic framework and then install whatever Genesis theme you want or a sample child theme that you can customize. You need both parts.  The child theme is the part that you can customize to get it to look exactly how you want. 🙂

Headway Themes is a drag-and-drop theme builder for WordPress. It’s one of the main theme frameworks available for WordPress and lets you create your own theme from scratch just by dragging around boxes. Easy to use and you can make great sites.

How to Install Your New WordPress Themes

Now that you’ve see some beautiful girly WordPress themes, let’s cover how to install a theme on WordPress in general.

Start by downloading the zipped file for the theme you want (which you will probably decide later on, unless you already have a theme picked out :)).

Then head over to Appearance – Themes. Then click Add New.

From here you have the option to search WordPress’s database for free themes and can also filter the themes by different features. You actually don’t have to buy a paid theme for WordPress if you can find a free one you like.

Once you’ve found a theme you like and downloaded the zipped file, click on Upload Theme. Now choose the file and click Install Now, then go back to the themes page and activate your new theme by pressing the blue activate button over the theme preview.
